I can remember when I used to believe that it was all about calories, making sure I had enough protein, and going for 3-hour runs 4 days a week. I remember when I used to think it was all about calories-in vs. calories out. I used to research and learn all about health and fitness by reading the current issue of Men’s Health, and I tried a ton of methods. Biking, running, lifting weights, doing everything I could get my hands on.
I mean, doesn’t it make sense that if you watch what you eat and you’re active that you’ll lose weight and get super healthy?
But When I Really Started to Pay Close Attention...
I started to notice:
- The foods I was eating lacked the necessary nutrients that I needed to be healthy and have a body running at optimal shape.

- The protein drinks I was consuming had bad consequences on my digestion, allergies, and mental state
- Starving myself of food was giving me MIGRANES that I couldn’t stand every single night!
About 3 years ago, I decided to get serious about figuring out why my 5’ 10” tall body was holding on to 40 pounds of excess fat. I got committed and focused on everything that I did, everything that I ate. I started keeping a journal with me so I could record every food or drink that passed my lips, and every single exercise I did during the day – including walking down my apartment stairs! I told myself that I HAD to figure out why I was carrying around so much fat!
I tried cutting regular sodas out of my diet. I stopped buying a 12-pack of cola every couple days and looked to see if that helped me lose weight. It didn’t, and after about 3 weeks, I started drinking soda again. But this time… about 36 cans a week. I was having 3-5 cans A DAY of cola, and my weight was staying the same.
I tried to stop eating red meats because I heard they were bad for your health. I went vegetarian overnight, and stayed on the meat-free path for 2 full months. All I noticed on my body was HUNGER and FRUSTRATION whenever I went out to dinner.
But no matter what I tried, I never was able to lose more than 5 pounds at a time. And even if I did, I’d gain it back (plus a few!) just a couple of weeks later.
Then, Something AWFUL Happened.
After college, I moved back in with my parents. I was adjusting well, looking for a job and then WHAM. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
When I heard the news, I was shocked. Floored. Speechless. I didn’t know what to do, how to help him. After all, he’s been the one helping me my entire life. My reality was shattered!
It wasn’t just a few months later that I got another bout of bad news. My mother also was diagnosed with cancer.
Talk about getting your reality turned upside-down. The two people that birthed me, that I spend my evenings with, were both patients suffering from CANCER.
After the emotions washed over me and everyone in the family was notified, the research began. Why did my parents get cancer? Why didn’t anyone else in my family suffer from cancer before? Was it genetic? Environment? What was it?
Whatever It Was, My Health Was Riding on the Answer!
As it turned out, cancer lead me and my family to a HUGE revelation. It’s not the environment that we live in that gave my parents cancer. It’s not genetics (our family history is 100% clear!). It HAD to be our DIET.
I remembered the food pyramid that I was taught in school – was I eating the recommended daily values of everything? Nope. Not even close! My diet, and my families diet, had all the food groups, but in a TOTALLY backwards way.
As my family and I started looking into our diet, we realized that we ate so few fruits and veggies, and the majority of the produce was canned and soaked in sugar syrups.
I began to read more and more about natural foods and got the amazing idea to detoxify my body. I knew that there were a ton of bad things in it – like heavily processed foods, alcohol, meats, and countless pesticides and bacteria that was all around me.
As I started to put the pieces of the puzzle together, I began to
realize that:
1. Your body holds on to dead matter and WASTE, begging you to let it flush itself out
2. Just like a tree gets longer and wider with age, so does the waste in your colon and bowels if you don’t flush it out. In nature, the only foods available are high in fiber and energy, helping your body release all of the dead matter and freeing the weight from you.
3. You need to learn how to detoxify your body using a raw food detox diet, and keep that health promoted for the rest of your life!
4. The results of doing are massive!
- Releasing pounds of waste and dead matter out of your body – making you thinner and lighter!

Realize That We Were Put on this Earth to Eat Raw, Natural Foods.
Whatever your belief on why we are on this Earth, you can be 100% positive that it isn’t so we can eat processed foods and ingest poisoned water! Our bodies were built for raw foods.
You know that sweet taste that you crave? It’s there for a reason – your body is telling you that you need fruit. It might be berries or apples or whatever. The point is – your body knows. It doesn’t crave some processed candy that only has the “taste” but not the nutrients. Raw foods are what your cravings are pointing to.
Have you ever eaten a big salad with a light dressing and afterwards felt AWESOME? Like you had more energy than before the meal? It’s not that “food coma” that happens so often when you eat a big meal of nutrient-void food.
What about supplementing your energy with some caffeine? I remember when I used to do that … I was addicted. But what happens after the buzz is gone? You crash. Your body is looking for sustained energy, not some DRUG that’s going force it into OVERDRIVE.
A big piece of biological proof that a raw food diet is natural and ideal is the stool that you produce after eating more produce. A healthier, more solid stool is passed, compared to a less-than-ideal stool when you’re eating garbage. Do you think there’s a reason for that?!
I Have A Simple Exercise For You to Try RIGHT NOW.
Its one simple thing that will create an ever-lasting fountain of energy in your life, and it’s common. But – it’s overlooked by just about everyone! Water.
Our bodies get dehydrated quickly, and they need a lot of water coming in to keep them healthy and functioning at 100%. If you think about a car that is low on coolant, it will overheat. When that happens, everything is on the fritz. The same thing can happen in your body, and is probably happening right now.
This is not a “drink 8-10 8oz glasses of water a day” lecture. I want you to LISTEN to your body. 
To get started, when do you think you’re the most dehydrated? Aside from RIGHT NOW, the answer is – when you wake up. Your body hasn’t had any water in 7-8 hours, and it NEEDS it to start functioning at its peak.
Your exercise to increase your energy and help detoxify your body starts by drinking 16 ounces of water every morning. Do it as the first thing you do. Put the cup in your bathroom, right next to the sink. Mine is bright colored, and I tend to put luke-warm water in it, so I can drink the entire thing easily.
Do this for a week and see how you start to feel. Your skin will wake up. Your body will be more responsive. You will lose your “I NEED FOOD NOW” appetite you get in the morning.
Follow this up throughout the day by drinking 16 ounces of purified drinking water 30 minutes before each meal. It helped me lower my cravings, because I realized that I needed water and not food.
Learning to listen to your body and doing a raw food detox is done the same way. During the raw food detox, you’re listening to your body. It’s going to tell you EVERYTHING you need to eat and drink.
At first, you’ll struggle with figuring out what your body wants. But the more you practice and “tune in”, the more your body will release all of its stored weight and let the beautiful YOU shine through!

As a matter of fact, I've realized that once you are drinking enough water and change to a raw food diet, your body begins to release weight at an extraordinary pace. I lost 20 pounds in the first month, and then about 2-3 pounds a week after that until my body rested at its optimal level.
Just like listening to your body and drinking water every morning, you must continue to fuel yourself with the raw foods that it needs to harness the energy and nutrients to get you super-healthy.
Here are a few ideas to practice and review on a regular basis:
1. Drink 16 ounces of water before every meal. It will hydrate your body and reduce your cravings.
2. Switch your morning coffee out with a fresh fruit smoothie (homemade!) and you’ll get energy that will last you until lunch!
3. Increase the size of your salad at dinner, and decrease the size of your starches. It’s what your body is craving. Give it the earthy greens that it needs – and go light on the dressing. Feel your body respond and you’ll never go back!
4. Swap out your daily sodas (including diet soda) for a natural alternative – organic raw kombucha (available at Whole Foods and Trader Joes) is a great drink that’s tangy, naturally carbonated, and LOADED with the good stuff that’ll keep you electric all day long.
You must remember that your current diet is not going to save you from the deadly and costly effects of disease. You must cleanse your body out and eat more of the natural, raw organic foods that are all around us.
I hope you're starting to understand better why I had such a realization when my parents were diagnosed. Our bodies are fueled by what we put into them. If we’re loading them up with refined sugars, processed foods, and garbage, we can expect a body to run in a similar way. Garbage in, garbage out.
The fact is – We Are What We Eat.
If we continue to consume processed corn and potatoes, we will not have the nutrients to fight off disease and be at our optimal health. You could fall into the same trap that my parents fell into – cancer. A raw food detox diet is CRITICAL to ensuring that your body is clear of nasty “stockpiles” of dead garbage, and room is made for clear digestion. You will lose unwanted weight easily because your body is doing what it wants to do – removing the dead and allowing LIFE to take its place.
